A CRITICAL DISCOURSE ANALYSIS ON LGBT ON REPUBLIKA ONLINE NEWS ARTICLES

The position of LGBT in Indonesia has received a vague response recently. There are also many marginalization and stereotypes faced by this community despite some acceptances received. This study will examine the stereotype reflected within news articles. Employing socio-cognitive approach Van Dijk (as cited Wodak Meyer, 2001), researcher aims to: (1) find out lexical choices found Republika Online (ROL) articles that contain towards Community, (2) discover Indonesian cognition depicted articles, (3) readers' responses to addressed community. conducted qualitative research elaborate on findings ROL. data were obtained from document analysis discourse level, an interview search society level. “LGBT is illness” threat nation”s ROL have represented LGBT. These motivated rejection LGBT's existence, shift attitude toward LGBT, Muslim ideology. From interview, readers showed various news; agreement reader, disagreement three others due reasons. In conclusion, caused negative images even though they not supported scientific explanation however reacted these differently, regardless
